Jeff Goodman asked:

The supplements I will talk about in this article are all natural substances that are not man made in a laboratory. They have been found to be very effective for creating vibrant health.

1.Goji Berries : Goji Berries contain 18 amino acids,

Goji Berries are 15% protein, which is more protein than whole wheat. Goji Berries contain 21 essential minerals, among them iron for the blood, zinc for cell repair and reproductive health, and selenium, which works with vitamin E as an antioxidant.

The real power of the Goji berry seems to be in the special sugars that are only produced by this little red berry. These sugars, called polysaccharides, are essential for the best working of your immune system.

Goji Berries strengthen the immune system. Goji Berries promote cardiovascular health by normalizing blood pressure. Goji Berries nourish the blood. This prevents and can even reverse anemia. Goji Berries increase the production of white blood cells. You need these to fight all kinds of infections.

Goji Berries reduce inflammation. Inflammation is an important part of most chronic diseases. Reducing inflammation reduces pain.most need it. Goji Berries strengthen the liver. You need your liver more than ever these days because it saves you from bad food, bad environmental toxins and just plain having a bad day.

2. Bee Pollen: Bee Pollen is often referred to as nature’s most complete food. Human consumption of Bee Pollen is praised in the Bible, other religious books, and ancient Egyptian and Chinese texts.

Bee Pollen is not found in the everyday diet. It is found in nutritional supplements. Bee Pollen has been used to enhance energy, memory and performance. Bee pollen is also taken to prevent hay fever. People believe that ingesting local bee pollen will help to build resistance to the pollen they are allergic to.

Cultures throughout the world use Bee Pollen in a surprising number of applications: for improving endurance and vitality, extending longevity, aiding recovery from chronic illness, adding weight during convalescence, reducing cravings and addictions, regulating the intestines, building new blood, preventing infectious diseases such as the cold and flue since Bee pollen has antibiotic type properties and helping overcome retardation and other developmental problems in children. Bee Pollen is thought to protect against radiation and to have anti-cancer qualities.

Nutritional value of bee pollen: Bee Pollen is a whole food supplement that contains at least 130 substances of nutritional significance. Bee Pollen is composed of about 50% carbohydrates, rich in fatty acids, almost all known minerals, amino acids, enzymes, trace elements, vitamins like B complex, A,C,D,E, beta carotene.

Benefits of Bee Pollen: Bee Pollen in daily routine prevents nutritional imbalance, deficiencies, accumulation of toxins in the body and helps strengthen the immune system and prevent disease.

3.Natto : Natto is a traditional Japanese food and is commonly eaten for breakfast in Japan. Since natto is made from soybeans fermented by natto bacillus, it is sticky and has strong smell and taste. It is an acquired taste, when I first tried it I didn’t like it but now I eat it every day and like it. It is inexpensive to buy Natto but the active ingredient,” Nattokinase” is expensive.

Health Benefits of Eating Natto: Natto is a good source of protein and vitamin B2, which keeps your skin young. Natto is also rich in vitamin K2, which is helpful in preventing osteoprosis. Further, a fibrinolytic enzyme found in natto is called nattokinase. Nattokinase is reported to reduce and prevent blood clot. So, eating natto can prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Dr. Martin Milner of the Center for Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon and Dr. Kouhei Makise of the Imadeqawa Makise Clinica in Kyoto, Japan were able to launch a joint research project on nattokinase and write an extensive paper on their findings. “In all my years of research as a professor of cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine, natto and nattokinase represents the most exciting new development in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular related diseases,” Dr. Milner said. “We have finally found a potent natural agent that can thin and dissolve clots effectively, with relative safety and without side effects.”

Traditionaly in Japan, Natto has been consumed not only for cardiovascular support, but also to lower blood pressure. In recent years, this traditional belief has been confirmed by several clinical trials.

I highly recommend Eating Natto daily or if you can’t get past the taste and smell, use the Nattokinase capsules.

4.Flax Seed/Fax Oil: Flax seed can be ground fresh each day and eaten with oatmeal or cereal. Flax Seed Oil contains omega-6 and omega-9 essential fatty acids, B vitamins, potassium, lecithin, magnesium, fiber, protein, and zinc and also provides approximately 50% more omega-3 oils than what you could get from taking fish oil, minus that horrible “fishy” after taste.

Here are a few of the benefits of using flax and flax oil: Research shows low incidence of ****** cancer and colon cancer in populations that have high amounts of lignan in their diet. Flax is 100 times richer in lignan than most whole grains.

Studies show that Omega-3 fatty acids help lower cholesterol and blood triglycerides, and prevent clots in arteries, which may result in strokes, heart attacks and thromboses.

Helps protect the body against high blood pressure, inflammation, water retention, sticky platelets and lowered immune function. Shortens recovery time for fatigued muscles after exertion. Increases the body’s production of energy and also increases stamina. Accelerates the healing of sprains and bruises.

5.Zeolite : Liquid Cellular Zeolite is a breakthrough supplement that works at the cellular level by trapping heavy metals and toxins and safely removing them from the body.

The actual Clinoptilolite Zeolite molecule is shaped like a honey-comb and carries a natural negative (-) charge. When this type of Zeolite is ingested into the body all of the positively charged (+) heavy metals, toxins, and harmful chemicals bond with the zeolite and are flushed out through the urine within 6-8 hours.

6. Bentonite : Liquid bentonite for elimination.

Taken internally, liquid bentonite supports the intestinal system in the elimination of toxins. Liquid bentonite is inert which means it passes through the body undigested.

Bentonite clay is made up of a high number of tiny platelets, with negative electrical charges on their flat surfaces and positive charges on their edges.

When bentonite clay absorbs water and swells up, it is stretched open like a highly porous sponge. Toxins are drawn into these spaces through electrical attraction and bound. In fact, according to the Canadian Journal of Microbiology (2), bentonite clay can reportedly absorb pathogenic viruses, as well as herbicides and pesticides. The bentonite is eventually eliminated from the body with the toxins bound to its multiple surfaces.

7.Chlorella : Chlorella is a special algae called Pyrenoidosa that grows in fresh water and has the highest content of chlorophyll (28.9g/kg) of any known plant on earth. It is extremely high in enzymes, vitamins and minerals, including the full vitamin-B Complex. It has been shown to activate your limited number of macrophages that scavenge and digest cancer cells, foreign proteins and chemicals. This life form emerged over 2.5 billion years ago, and was the first form of plant with a well-defined nucleus.

Chlorella is natural and the nutrients in it are bio-chelated, which means they are naturally wrapped in amino acids so the body will more readily take them in. Typical supplements, meanwhile, are nothing more than an amalgam of concentrates and extracts that have been artificially stitched together because — at least on paper — they look like they should provide balanced nutrition. Chlorella’s nutrients are naturally balanced and won’t accumulate in your body and become toxic — yet another reason they are superior to any man-made vitamin supplement.

8.Turmeric : Turmeric is one of nature’s most powerful healers. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. Tumeric has been used for over 2500 years in India, where it was most likely first used as a dye.

Here are some reasons to add turmeric to your diet:

It is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts and burns.

When combined with cauliflower, it has shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop the growth of existing prostate cancer.

Prevented ****** cancer from spreading to the lungs in mice. May prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit *******. Reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.

Is a natural liver detoxifier. May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by removing amyloyd plaque buildup in the brain. May prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.

It is a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects. Has shown promise in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis in mice. Is a natural painkiller and cox-2 inhibitor.

May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management. Has long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for depression. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Boosts the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects. Promising studies are underway on the effects of turmeric on pancreatic cancer. Studies are ongoing in the positive effects of turmeric on multiple myeloma. Has been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.

Speeds up wound healing and assists in remodeling of damaged skin. May help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules.

9.Ginger: Ginger was found to be effective for relieving the severity of nausea even in cases of pregnancy. Many women claim that ginger tea helps rid them of menstrual cramps.

It has anti-inflammatory properties that can lessen the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. Respiratory infections – it is well known for its warming action on the upper respiratory tract, so it has been used to treat colds and flu.

It has been found to be effective in cramps caused by stomach gas. Ginger also stimulates digestion. It has a wholesome effect on the circulatory system as it makes the platelets less sticky and is of great benefit in case of circulatory disorders.

As a mood enhancer, ginger’s cineole content may help contribute to stress relief. It is a great mouth freshener and ginger tea has vastly refreshing properties.

Ginger can be used in extract pill form and the dosage for this is 100 to 200mg up to three times a day. Fresh powdered ginger should be taken three times a day one fourth to one half of a teaspoon. Fresh ginger root can be eaten every four hours but no more than three times a day and should be approximately one half inch and peeled. Ginger tea which now comes prepackaged can be taken several times a day. Crystallized ginger can be taken twice a day.

10. Beet Juice crystals : Red beet juice has been an important part of human nutrition for centuries In modern times, French nutritionists have tested the value of beet juice, using diets that include up to 6 pints of beet juice daily. Often, beet juice is used in combination with other juices. In fact, three juices beet juice, carrot juice, and green juice form the central trio in most juicing programs. Thats because juice lovers recognize fresh juice as a simple way to bring natural nutrients to their diet. RediBeets offers a convenient way to complete the collection of juices that you want to include in your diet.

Using a unique processing method that frees the juice and its valuable nutrients from the plants fiber, RediBeets takes a half pound of beets and turns it into a convenient teaspoon serving of crystals, eliminating the effort of traditional juicing. Mixed with water or apple, carrot. or other juices, RediBeets provides a delicious way to complete your juice program.

By choosing to follow the advice or the information presented by Jeff Goodman you agree to take FULL responsibility for yourself.
Nick Mutt asked:

Garlic (Allium Sativum)

Garlic is a magical herb that has proven its effectiveness in almost all common ailments. It is very effective in heart diseases particularly in lowering cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. So if you are the one having high cholesterol, increase your garlic intake. It will also help you to reduce blood pressure. As garlic helps in reducing cholesterol and blood pressure, it also reduces the risk of heart attacks and heart diseases.

Chemical agents found in garlic are

•	Allilin

•	Allicin

•	Diallyl disulphide

•	Ferulic acid

•	Saponin

•	Beta Carotene

•	Beta Sitosterol

•	Phytic acid

Minerals found in garlic are

•	Magnesium

•	Phosphorus

•	Calcium

•	Selenium

•	Zinc

•	Folate

•	Iron

•	Potassium

Vitamins found in garlic are

•	Niacin

•	Ascorbic acid

•	Thiamine

•	Riboflavin

Garlic works as an antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic and a germicide. It is also an antioxidant, so diet rich in raw garlic fights against harmful free radicals. It improves blood circulation, and also helps in prolong ********. It is an excellent remedy for whooping cough. Syrups of garlic is given in doses of five drops to a teaspoonful two or three times a day in this condition.

Garlic helps in preventing blood clots especially if you are prone to blood clots in the legs. It also helps in regulating blood sugar. It helps in relieving the symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive track. According to some researches – smokers with high garlic intake have a relatively lower stomach cancer risk than smokers with low garlic intake. It is thought that the allyl sulfur compounds present in garlic prevents cancer by slowing or preventing the growth of the cancer tumor cells.

Apart from above, garlic is a wonderful herb that is very effective in treating various disorders and helps in improving the performance of the body. Below are some conditions in which garlic is very helpful -

•	Infections

•	Fungal infection

•	Hyperlipidemia

•	High cholesterol levels

•	Indigestion

•	Diabetes

•	Impotence

•	Decreased ***** count

•	Worm infestation

•	Cancer

•	Blood disorders

•	Decreased body immunity

Disclaimer: This article is not meant to provide health advice and is for general information only.
Harvey McEwan asked:

‘You are what you eat’ is the mantra many of us live by in these health-conscious times, and every day there seems to be a new trend or fad to follow. From eating baby food to following the blood group diet, we all want to find the magical food plan that will keep us looking good and feeling satisfied. Yet it’s not just a matter of calories – increasingly, we are all worried about what the food we put into our bodies is doing to us, and how we can use it to fight serious disease.

What’s more, our diet decisions could lead to a lighter us but a heavier wallet – a health insurance comparison as a healthy fit person can give you a much more palatable quote than as somebody unfit and overweight. But how do you sort the good advice from the bad?

How Do You Know Which Health Advice To Follow?

It seems every week dietary advice is releaed by serious, scientific institutions only for it to be called into question a couple of months later. For example , almost everybody agreed fibre was good for you and lots of it! Not so, says a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association. More recently, question marks are now being raised over the benefits of oily fish and even the solid mantra that a low-fat diet is good for you is being called into question.

What is true is that if you eat fresh fruit and vegetables, try not to eat too much junk or consume too much alcohol, and move around in the form of some sort of exercise you find enjoyable, you will be well on your way to becoming healthy – and when you compare heath insurance you should receive a favourable quote and not a costly surprise. What is also true is that there are some crazy fads out there to be avoided at all costs. Fancy nothing but lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper all day, shook up in a 2-litre ‘detox’ drink? Celebrities push themselves the extra mile in order to lose weight but that doesn’t mean the average person should be following them.

Compare Health Insurance With Confidence

If you pick up any magazine or newspaper there is likely to be an article on the latest health food craze, but it’s important not to get swept along by them. Employ common sense regarding your meals, do some exercise and you will soon become a healthier version of yourself – which is certainly important when you are comparing health insurance to get the best possible price.

peterhutch asked:

Sexuality is a big part of being human. Love, affection and sexual intimacy all play a role in healthy relationships. They also contribute to your sense of well-being. A number of disorders can affect the ability to have or enjoy sex, including erectile dysfunction and female sexual problems. Concerns about infertility or fear of unplanned pregnancy can also come into play.

Sexual disorders can sometimes be prevented from occurring in the first place. Parents who communicate openly and honestly with children about sexual issues may help prevent them from developing anxiety and guilt that may later lead to sexual disorders. Open communication between sexual partners is also helpful. People who have experienced abuse or other sexual violence may develop a sexual disorder as a result of their trauma.

As part of our comprehensive strategy to improve the sexual health of the population, the Department of Health is working to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, reduce unintended pregnancies (particularly teenage pregnancies) and improve the range, access to and quality of service provision. On these pages you will find more information and guidance on sexual health including contraception, abortion and STIs and HIV.

Millions upon millions of men around the world are dissatisfied with some aspect of their male sexual health. Some are discontent with the size of their ***** while others are disappointed with the low volume of ***** they ejaculate during *********** and yet there are others who are disappointed with sub par ********* and lack of male libido. Not to worry! Our site is specifically designed to help men explore the various male enhancement options available for improving male sexual health.

Societal attitudes toward sexuality in later life are troubling. A great number believe that far fewer mature men and women have *** than actually do. Many feel that after a certain age, sexuality becomes an insignificant or indifferent part of life. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Most older people experience some interest in sexual intimacy. Many people are sexually intimate well into their 80s and beyond. We do not all of a sudden become asexual beings; our capacity for sexual intimacy will be with us our entire lives.

Penile ******** is sustained by holding back and trapping the blood in the *****. The enlarged ***** compresses the blood vessels that drain the blood out of ***** to the tunica albuginea. But when an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) becomes active, the cGMP level falls, followed by corpora cavernosa muscle contraction. As a result the blood in-flow is stopped and the veins drain the blood out of the ***** and the ******** goes away.

Contraception: Improving access to contraceptive services and to the full range of methods is one of the key aims of the Government’s White Paper – Choosing Health: making healthy choices easier. This section contains documents and guidance on contraception policy.

As we all approach later life, two of the things which brought us the greatest joy – our children and/or our careers – are no longer as prevalent in our every day. This means that our personal relationships take on an increased importance. It is a way of solidifying our relationship with our partner and taking refuge from the sometimes harsh reality of the world. *** is a way to affirm the love of life. It is an expression of the satisfaction gained from the present. It expresses the closeness of our deepest relationships and is an important measure of the quality of life.

Nick Mutt asked:

In diabetes mellitus, the glucose level in the urine and blood is high. A high level of blood sugar is due to deficiency of insulin, the hormone that facilitates the entry of glucose in body cells. This occurs when the pancreas fails to produce sufficient insulin or due to antibodies that are formed in the blood which interfere with the normal functioning of the insulin. In either case, there is a high level of glucose in the blood.

Diabetes generally appears as polyuria (frequent urination) and polydipsia (increased thirst). It is always essential to check for diabetes if a person is suffering from any ailment and is not recovering fast; particularly those approaching 40 should and must check for diabetes every year.

1. Diabetes may cause itching of ***** in women and inflammation of the glans ***** in men.

2. You may lose weight inspite of normal or increased appetite.

3. You may have a variety of infections like tuberculosis, infection of kidney (pyelonephritis).

4. You may have retinal detachment or even loss of vision, may develop infection in the feet which may turn into gangrene and require amputation if the disease is not checked in early stage.

5. You may have aches or pain in the body, weakness, a boil or carbuncle of skin which does not heal rapidly.

6. There is an increase in still births of pregnant women in a diabetic condition. The child born could be heavy (over 10 lbs. at birth).

7. Diabetes can complicate arthritis.

8. It may cause amenorrhea (stopped periods).

If you have a high glucose level in the urine and blood, the most important thing to do is to control the diet. Cut down sugar completely, this will bring down the sugar level to some extent, increase physical activity, do walking, jogging, exercises and if sugar is still high then probably you will need some medicine for the time being, but if you supplement the effort with controlled diet and increased exercise you can gradually cut down medicine and be able to completely stop it in most cases.

Nick Mutt asked:

Exercise is necessary for good health. It makes you active and alert in your day to day activities. Exercise promotes digestion, lightness of the body, sturdiness of the body, reduces fat in the body and increases capability to do work. It increases the tone of the muscles, balance of autonomic, voluntary and involuntary muscles, increases the metabolic rate. Exercise makes lungs to function properly and also the decrease of gastrointestinal accumulations.

Exercise makes the body to sweat, and indirectly the function of the kidney is reduced. It helps eliminate toxins out of the body. Daily exercise will increase hemoglobin and alkalinity of blood and total protein is increased and also red blood corpuscles. Exercise promotes the physical and mental strength and will power and self-control and thereby the entire development of body will take place.

Exercise increases resistance of the body. It also increases caloric value in the body. It plays prominent role in the treatment of depression. It increases the hormones of beta, endorphins which promote and regulate the mood. In diseases also some sort of physical exercise is advised. Doctors advocate a sort of mild exercise in arthritis. Even in accident cases and fracture of bones and paralysis of body some types of exercise are used.

Exercise should be done early in the morning on an empty stomach. As soon as you feel tired then it is better to stop it. Exercises must be done only to get refreshed and relaxed. First start exercise lightly and increase it gradually and slowly in stages, so that your body must be adjusted to the changes in the body environment.

Exercise must be regularly and systematically practiced. Yoga, walking, swimming, cycling, horse riding and tennis etc are also a type of exercises. Exercise makes the person to live long in health and happiness.

Disclaimer: This article is not meant to provide health advice and is for general information only.
Tim Amherst asked:

One of the most devastating parasites which may threaten your Pit Bull is the heartworm. These nasty creatures can linger in your pet for years before dealing a death blow to your Pit Bull. Heartworms are treatable, but it is best to use a protective stance rather than wait for infection to occur.

This disease is not spread from pet to pet via contact, but by another nasty creature we all know as the mosquito. The mosquito is a necessary link in the transfer of the disease. The number of dogs infected with heartworms always increases during the height of mosquito season. Long mosquito seasons will increase the rate of infections rapidly.

Once heartworms are transmitted by the mosquito into the dog’s blood stream, they travel through the blood into the heart and the major pulmonary blood vessels. The heartworms are in the immature stage and are called microfilaria.

Upon arriving in the heart, the microfilaria will set up residence and grow into adult heartworms. These fully grown parasites cause heart blockage and damage to surrounding tissues by clogging the heart and the major blood vessels leading from the heart. Adult heartworms will also interfere with the valve action within the heart.

When the heart and main blood vessels get clogged, the blood flow to other critical organs is reduced, which can cause problems for the liver, kidneys and lungs, resulting in organ failure.

Most dogs which are infected with heartworms will not show any outward signs of disease for as long as up to two years. Sadly, by the time the disease starts to show signs in the dog, it is in the advanced stage. These signs depend on several factors, such as the number of adult worms and microfilariae present, as well as their location. The length of time the infection has been present, and the amount of damage already done to the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys are all essential factors.

Signs of Heartworm Infestation

The most obvious outward signs of heartworms are:

Unexplained weight loss.

A dry almost constant cough with labored breathing.

Shortness of breath.

Sudden weakness.

A sudden show of nervousness or listlessness, accompanied by a loss of stamina.

The signs of heartworms are most noticeable after the dog has been engaged in exercise or play. Some dogs with heartworms may even faint or drop dead suddenly right after engaging in rigorous play or exercise.

Treatment for heartworms is available but it is costly and in some cases may prove fatal to the dog itself. To prevent this horrible disease in your Pit Bull, be sure to keep your dog’s regular vet appointments. Heartworms can be prevented easily by administering heartworm medication to your pet each month.

As always, talk to your vet if you have any concerns that your dog may have heartworms, and never try to treat the disease on your own. Always consult a properly qualified professional before starting any type of treatments on your dog.

Nick Mutt asked:

Massage therapy is no doubt an effective natural therapy that has tremendous healing properties. To get maximum benefit from this therapy you should know the principles of massage therapy and do’s and don’t while doing massage. Touch is both healing and comforting and what’s more you can enjoy the pleasure of it – both giving and receiving. Massage improves blood circulation; calms the nervous system; stimulates skin function; improves muscle tone and eases aches and pains in muscles and joints.

The basic principles of massage

Massage is a way of stroking the body, with variations in the length and depth of strokes. However, you should always direct firm strokes towards the heart, as this will be beneficial to the circulation.

Long flowing massage strokes with little pressure on the body are the most soothing and relaxing. This type of movement is called gentle, even pressure and is often used to start and finish a massage.

Patting or tapping the skin with your fingers quickly and slowly is stimulating and helps to increase blood flow. This is called tapotement. It is usually done on small areas such as the forehead, cheeks and neck.

Petrissage involves squeezing and releasing a muscle or part of a muscle group. A good example of this kind of movement is kneading dough. It is mostly done with both hands, particularly on the thighs and buttocks. Petrissage helps strengthen muscle fiber, remove waste products and ease fatigue.

There’s another type of massage movement called friction which creates just that. It involves rubbing the hands backwards and forwards across an area and is very warming and stimulating to the tissues.

Do’s and don’ts

Massage is a gentle healing art suitable for everyone from babies to the very elderly. Note the below points while doing massage -

Do not massage

• Any infected area

• A person who is feverish or has a raised temperature

• Over an area where varicose veins are present

• Over any unusual swelling or inflammation

• Bruised or broken skin

Before massaging do

• Check with the person about to be massaged whether any of the above apply

• Make sure the room is warm enough

• Warm your hands before massaging

Hope this article will help you to know the basic information about massaging in the right way!

Disclaimer: This article is not meant to provide health advice and is for general information only. Always seek the insights of a qualified health professional before embarking on any health program.

Read more about aromatherapy, ayurveda, yoga and massage therapy at Natural cures website.
At any given moment, millions of people in this country are on a diet. From Weight Watchers to the South Beach Diet to the newest diet pill, folks are trying anything and everything in an effort to write their own weight loss success story. Unfortunately for those seeking fast weight loss, the vast majority of weight loss programs on the market today simply do not work.

Diet plans and diet products that offer quick weight loss without exercise are especially prone to failure. “In fact, nearly 95 percent of those who go on low calorie diets regain their lost weight, plus some, within five years. Not a resounding endorsement for low calorie dieting” (Source: Performance Press; April 2006).

That’s not to say that all the weight loss tips and diet tips are without merit, however. Tips on losing weight can have a powerful effect when they’re combined with regular exercise. That’s why we’ve created this list of the top 10 health tips for easy weight loss.

Is weight loss easy? Not usually, and the reason is that most people try to make huge changes all at once. Pumped up with commitment and willpower, they jump into the latest weight loss product or diet program with both feet. They make too many changes in too short a time period. Drastic lifestyle modifications are rarely sustainable, and all too often lead to failure. If you’ve been living on junk food for years, trying to switch to a healthy diet overnight will only make you feel frustrated and deprived.

A much better approach is to make small changes that you can stick with for life. So check out the sound advice you’ll find in our top ten list, and you’ll get the weight loss information you need for success.

** 1) Our first bit of health advice is to skip the super size option. In this tip we’ve assumed that you visit McDonald’s once per week. That may a low average for some of you, so keep in mind that if you’re eating fast food more than once per week the results you’ll achieve by following this tip will be even greater than the example shows. We’re not asking you to give up fast food completely (small, sustainable changes, remember?). Instead, we’re asking you to say no to the SuperSize portion. Just by ordering a ‘regular’ McDonald’s meal instead of the SuperSize option, you will lose almost 6 pounds of fat this year! Want even more good news? This example only factors in the french fries. Add in the calorie savings you’ll get by drinking a regular soda vs. a SuperSize soda and the results are truly amazing.

** 2) The second recommendation in this fitness advice guide is to eat 5 – 6 smaller meals per day. “Eating small meals causes a lower blood sugar response than large meals. A high blood sugar response provides you with quick energy, but it is associated with a large insulin release that tends to cause a blood sugar ‘crash’ soon thereafter. Many small meals taken throughout the day will normalize blood sugar and insulin levels, providing a sustained and consistent energy supply to the cells. A meal every three hours or so is recommended.” (source: Fitness, The Complete Guide; 2001; page 8.4)

A note of caution here, however: This health tip does not mean that you eat 6 big meals per day. Instead, you should take the amount of food you’d normally consume and spread it out over six meals instead of the usual three. For someone on a 2,000 calorie per day diet, that would translate into 333 calories per meal x 6 meals.

** 3) The next tidbit of expert advice is to know the numbers. Everyone on a weight loss plan should know, at a minimum, how many calories they should be consuming every day. This number is known as your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), also commonly referred to as the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) or simply the Burn Rate. Although your doctor can help you calculate your BMR most accurately, there are some resources that can assist you in estimating your number.

Your BMR is your ‘calorie target’, assuming that you wish to maintain your current size and weight. For the best fat loss results, cut calorie consumption moderately…..say, 500 below your caloric target.

If you’re seeking fat loss, then it’s important to also understand that body fat percentage is one of the most important measurements of fitness. All the medical advice agrees that reaching your ideal body weight is best achieved through permanent fat loss (as opposed to muscle loss). With this in mind, this health tip for easy weight loss is to know your BMR and your body fat percentage, along with the corresponding goals.

** 4) It’s good advice to know the difference between cheat food and junk food. Cheat foods are those foods that don’t belong in your everyday diet, but still have some redeeming qualities. Junk foods are those foods that don’t belong in your diet at all, ever.

This tip is really a critical one: Understand the difference between ‘cheat’ foods and ‘junk’ foods. Cheat foods have some nutritional value, so although we shouldn’t eat them every day it’s not the end of the world if we enjoy them from time to time. Junk foods, on the other hand, give us absolutely no benefit whatsoever. Again, we want you to make small changes that you can stick with for life. You don’t have to give up the occasional ‘cheat food’ treat – just try to eliminate all the ‘junk food’.

For example, compare a slice of Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza with a Hershey’s chocolate bar. Neither are what you’d consider healthy, and both have roughly the same number of calories. But with the pizza, at least you’re getting some nutritional value because that delicious slice contains 11 grams of protein compared to just 3 grams in the candy bar. Cheat foods are not health foods, but at least they’re not junk foods. Choose wisely.

** 5) When you’re trying to lose weight fast, some sound advice is to chart your progress. What gets measured gets done, so charting your fat loss progress is a simple step that will help you get motivated and stay motivated. Create a chart for each challenge you face, whether it be working out or dietary habits. The important thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong way to chart your progress – what works for you may not work for anyone else. So come up with your own system, create a tracking chart, and post it where you will see it several times each day.

** 6) Do not decrease your caloric intake far below what is required of your BMR, or you risk forcing your body into starvation mode. “Do not under-eat by too much. If you consistently eat way too little, your body will start to think it’s in a starvation state and for the initial period, weight loss and fat loss may become harder than anticipated. After a while of severe underfeeding, instead of preferentially burning fat for energy, your hard-earned muscle will be burned for energy” (source: Fitness Rx; February 2004; page 93). So if healthy weight loss is your goal, and you only want to burn fat while you preserve your valuable muscle, then take great care to not starve yourself.

** 7) Don’t shop when you’re hungry. Shopping when you’re hungry is asking for double-trouble, and eliminating this bad habit will help you lose fat by removing temptation from your home. Shopping while full greatly reduces your chances of impulsively buying sweets and treats. This allows you to shop with your brain and not your stomach. Skipping all the extra fattening foods will make one thing fatter, however…..your wallet.

** Take (at least) 20 minutes to eat. Once you start eating, it takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain that you’re full. The problem is, many of us eat so quickly that by the time our stomach has had the chance to send that message we’ve already put down more calories than we needed.

Here are a few ways to solve this problem: a) Drink a large (8 or 12 oz.) glass of water 20 minutes before each meal. b) Physically put your fork down between each bite. c) Enjoy your family. Have a discussion that stretches out the length of the meal. d) Serve the meal in courses, starting with a large salad.

** 9) Have a treat once a week. If you deprive yourself of all treats, then you’re just setting yourself up for failure. “Being too stringent on a diet can beget a downfall. To prevent this, once a week, for one meal, have your favorite foods” (source: Fitness Rx; February 2004; page 96).

One of the major reasons people fail in their fat loss efforts is that they adopt the all-or-none mentality. When the attempts to stay away from all treats fail, it’s easy to think ‘Oh well, I’ve already blown my diet. Might as well eat another slice’. Planning a weekly treat will help curb those cravings, making a binge less likely.

** 10) Be inefficient. Make extra work for yourself. Take two trips to bring in all the groceries from the car, even if you can do it in one. When running errands, park as far away from each business as possible. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, even if you’re carrying something. In short, be inefficient. “Being inefficient in this way can easily double your activity level and you’ll be burning calories without even trying” (source: Fitness Rx; February 2004; page 96).

Remember that walking burns about 108 calories in 30 minutes. Small walks count too. Even if you don’t have time to walk 30 minutes in one session each day, shorter walks that add up to 30 minutes will still burn that same 108 calories.

If you’re looking for the best weight loss program available, give these health tips a try. With a little effort, you may just put that weight issue to rest once and for all.
