The Health Benefits Of Eating Sprouts

Sprouts retain vitamins and minerals, even after cooking. Where as grains, fenugreek, mung (mung bean, green bean, moong, green gram), ground nut will lose a substantial amount of their vitamin and minerals on boiling.
Sprouts contain an amazing increased amount of nutrients in comparison to dried seeds. Sprouting increases the vitamins, minerals and protein and decreases the calories and carbohydrate contents. The water content of the sprouts also increases as compared to dried seeds, grains, and legumes. Sprouts are a great, cheap source of obtaining a concentration of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Alfalfa seeds contain manganese, calcium, vitamins as A, B, C, E, K and amino acids.
The following are used for sprouting.
1. Legumes- Peas, ground nut, mung
2. Seeds- Radish seeds, carrot seeds
3. Grains- Wheat, barley, ragi,
Method of Sprouting
The seeds must be washed well in pure water and soaked in water for 24 hours, after closing the vessel with a clean cloth. The next morning seeds are cleaned and water is removed. To one fourth of the vessel the seeds are put and they require more space for their sprouting, bulky, and pulpy and with full of water. The sprouting will happen within three days. One can notice the green leaves at their tips. They must be preserved in a refrigerator and used whenever necessary. These will contain all the nutrients and minerals after boiling. The vitamins are not lost after boiling. So the sprouts are safe and useful to the body. They aid in the maintenance of good health. So, one must use sprouts daily in their meals either in breakfast, lunch or dinner.

In diabetes mellitus, the glucose level in the urine and blood is high. A high level of blood sugar is due to deficiency of insulin, the hormone that facilitates the entry of glucose in body cells. This occurs when the pancreas fails to produce sufficient insulin or due to antibodies that are formed in the blood which interfere with the normal functioning of the insulin. In either case, there is a high level of glucose in the blood.
Diabetes generally appears as polyuria (frequent urination) and polydipsia (increased thirst). It is always essential to check for diabetes if a person is suffering from any ailment and is not recovering fast; particularly those approaching 40 should and must check for diabetes every year.
1. Diabetes may cause itching of ***** in women and inflammation of the glans ***** in men.
2. You may lose weight inspite of normal or increased appetite.
3. You may have a variety of infections like tuberculosis, infection of kidney (pyelonephritis).
4. You may have retinal detachment or even loss of vision, may develop infection in the feet which may turn into gangrene and require amputation if the disease is not checked in early stage.
5. You may have aches or pain in the body, weakness, a boil or carbuncle of skin which does not heal rapidly.
6. There is an increase in still births of pregnant women in a diabetic condition. The child born could be heavy (over 10 lbs. at birth).
7. Diabetes can complicate arthritis.
8. It may cause amenorrhea (stopped periods).
If you have a high glucose level in the urine and blood, the most important thing to do is to control the diet. Cut down sugar completely, this will bring down the sugar level to some extent, increase physical activity, do walking, jogging, exercises and if sugar is still high then probably you will need some medicine for the time being, but if you supplement the effort with controlled diet and increased exercise you can gradually cut down medicine and be able to completely stop it in most cases.
Manage you diabetes for a healthier life!

Essential Nutrients for Good Health
Let see the essential nutrients and their natural sources, for the healthy growth of body and mind. Protein, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and fats are the essential nutrients for good health. They strengthen our immunity system, help fight against diseases, and keep us healthy, fit and strong.
Protein – Protein are essential for the growth, maintenance and regeneration of the body. The main sources of proteins are pulses, milk, eggs, meat etc. Many nutritionists believe that animal proteins are superior and indeed complete food proteins whereas vegetable proteins are inferior and incomplete food proteins. They insist on vegetarians taking plenty of milk so that they can get sufficient amounts of complete food proteins and the body can be maintained at its best.
A non-vegetarian diet provides excessive amounts of proteins to the body. And excess of proteins may result in many diseases. This is because ingestion of excessive amounts of proteins results in the formation of uric acid, which is harmful to health.
Vitamins and Minerals – Vitamins and minerals perform various important functions in the body. Vitamins are needed for the proper digestion and absorption of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, and the development of the ability of the body to protect itself against diseases. Minerals are needed for the formation and functioning of the cells. These vital substances are necessary for the maintenance of health.
Carbohydrates – Carbohydrates provides heat and energy to the body. The major sources of carbohydrates are cereals, tubers, roots, pulses, milk, etc. One should prefer the use of natural carbohydrates in their natural forms in place of processed carbohydrates. Processing removes the fibers and roughage from the food that results in insufficient elimination of wastes. Toxic substances consequently accumulate in the blood. De-branned flour, polished rice, white flour, refined sugars, canned and bottled fruit juices, tomato ketchup, jams, jellies, bread, chocolates, cakes, biscuits, sweets etc. are instances of such processed foods.
Fats – Fats, too like carbohydrates, perform the function of supplying heat and energy to the body. The main sources of fats for vegetarians are ghee (clarified butter) and oils. There are two types of fats – saturated and unsaturated. Prolonged used of saturated fats causes constriction and hardening of arteries, which may result in hypertension, heart attack and other related ailments. It is therefore necessary to minimize the intake of saturated fats and replacing them by unsaturated fats.

Massage therapy is no doubt an effective natural therapy that has tremendous healing properties. To get maximum benefit from this therapy you should know the principles of massage therapy and do’s and don’t while doing massage. Touch is both healing and comforting and what’s more you can enjoy the pleasure of it – both giving and receiving. Massage improves blood circulation; calms the nervous system; stimulates skin function; improves muscle tone and eases aches and pains in muscles and joints.
The basic principles of massage
Massage is a way of stroking the body, with variations in the length and depth of strokes. However, you should always direct firm strokes towards the heart, as this will be beneficial to the circulation.
Long flowing massage strokes with little pressure on the body are the most soothing and relaxing. This type of movement is called gentle, even pressure and is often used to start and finish a massage.
Patting or tapping the skin with your fingers quickly and slowly is stimulating and helps to increase blood flow. This is called tapotement. It is usually done on small areas such as the forehead, cheeks and neck.
Petrissage involves squeezing and releasing a muscle or part of a muscle group. A good example of this kind of movement is kneading dough. It is mostly done with both hands, particularly on the thighs and buttocks. Petrissage helps strengthen muscle fiber, remove waste products and ease fatigue.
There’s another type of massage movement called friction which creates just that. It involves rubbing the hands backwards and forwards across an area and is very warming and stimulating to the tissues.
Do’s and don’ts
Massage is a gentle healing art suitable for everyone from babies to the very elderly. Note the below points while doing massage -
Do not massage
• Any infected area
• A person who is feverish or has a raised temperature
• Over an area where varicose veins are present
• Over any unusual swelling or inflammation
• Bruised or broken skin
Before massaging do
• Check with the person about to be massaged whether any of the above apply
• Make sure the room is warm enough
• Warm your hands before massaging
Hope this article will help you to know the basic information about massaging in the right way!
